Time: Approximately 1am, between "Red Rose" and "Red Rose and its Clippers"
Place: Red Rose Gummi Ship, Hyperspace, between Twilight Town and the World that Never Was
Play:
The Nobody was sitting on the bridge, adjusting data on a computer terminal. It was late, most of the others were asleep or otherwise preoccupied. He didn't really need to sleep, as the laws of the universe considered him to "not exist". Therefore, things like food, sleep, and air weren't 100% necessary. Comfortable, yes, but gratuitous. That's why he was here now. He found that he got more accomplished staying up, and they were about to make an assault on the Castle that Never Was. They needed a strategy..
By this time, the knight would be awake, walking around the familiar and missed hallways of the Red Rose. Memories growing heavy with everycorner, which felt lonely, and incomplete without their General. She would sigh, holding tightly at her white robe, and tapping lightly at the ground with her brown, simple slippers as she thought, "...why doth I be doing this to myself... 'tis only bad for health and good nothing." she tried logic, "She shall return.." she mumbled to herself, and halting a few feet away from the Nobody. Agrias would blink at the sight of a passenger working, and she frowned a little walking a bit closer, " Could thou not slumber?" she asked softly, "Ah, Ser Sai, was it? Is everything alright?"
"Sleep is a luxury, not a requirement..." Sai muttered, finishing up drawing up the latest of several sets of battle plans, his attempt to accomodate for any possible misstep. He paused, then turned in his seat to face her. " 'Sai' is all... It's my name and title..." He looked to her, his one visible eye so dull and emotionless. Some might confuse it for sleepiness, but it was how he looked all the time, even when they first met. "Waking for you, however, is condusive to a health condition called insomnia. Is something the matter, Miss Agrias?" he asked, tilting his head slightly to the side.
" Ah, I was hoping to hit the books, really." She smiled a little, reaching up to scratch a little at her cheek. A soft feeling, since she wore no gloves. She was wearing a nightgown covered by a whiterobe, and that was all excluding the brown slippers, " Unable to sleep, I need to entertain mine mind. So much to learn..." she whispered, still feeling somewhat useless. She walked over to a cabinet, and took out a book she had been reading lately, "The Modern World." -- It was a start, and she needed one. She turned to see the nobody, and she bowed her head lightly, "Maybe you could join me for a spot of tea? We could work in our assignments in the mean time.."
He nodded a moment, turning to the computer screen only momentarily to save his progress. 124 battle plans in three hours. Not bad. He stood up and walked over to her, waving a hand for her to lead the way. He glanced down a second, noticing the book. "Modern World..." he read aloud before looking up to her. "I read that when I first came to Radiant Garden... I had much to learn then... I still do."
"Oh did you?" Agrias smiled brightly, turning to walk toward the break room. She had set a tea set earlier there, with a small 'bunsen-like-burner' to heat up the water to make the delicious beverage. She would set up to cups as she spoke, " I've been lost since I appeared here... somehow appeared here. A world far different from mine own, truly in every sense of the matter-- I have not seen ONE chocobo but mine own, and he's down in the cargo hold."
"Chocobo?" Sai asked. Where he came from, they didn't exist. In fact, his only contact with the trademark oversized bird was in passing an advertisement for races near the Gold Saucer in Gaia. He sat down in one of the large, comfortable chairs as she prepared the tea, leaning forward slighlty with his elbows resting on his knees, hands folded neatly in front of him. "I'm not familiar with them... but my education came mostly from the wide-eyed wonder of a naive mind... Exploration and experience being the forces that drove me to where I am now... which was foolish." He leaned forward to collect his cup, looking at the shapely porcelin whistfully. "If I could take it all back, I would."
The girl sat down next to Sai, and held the cup to her lips, blowing on the steamy liquid softly, " They are large birds that were the main form of transportation." She nodded, "They came in various colors depending on their breeding, we have Red, Yellow and Purple chocobos..." she smiled brightly, " Of course, exploration and experience is gold, still I don't know how machinery and such things work. Never truly had things so... difficult to comprehend, one trinket is attached to another to form a box with buttons, which is held by some type of rope, and then a limitless air, and you have something called a ... what was it called...uhm... Elli- Va- tour?"
Sai nodded slightly, listening to this. While most would laugh, or at the very least chuckle, he seemed pensive and thoughtful. "Elevator," he stated, then looked to her. "A device designed specifically for the purpose of lifting passengers from one floor to another. Original designs made use of a hand crank and pulley, not unlike what might be commonly found in traditional construction sites for castles..." he spoke so blandly, like a professor of technologies. "The addition of electricity and motors are what brought the design to where it is now." He paused, then asked her simply... "What do you know about electricity? That seems a good place to start."
"Electricity is the limitless thunderspell, yes?" Agrias held a finger up to her lips after setting her cup down, in thought, "'Tis that which drives a town now-a-days, replacing candle fire and heating chimney?" She sighed a little, resting both her hands on her legs, leaning forward, " 'Tis what drives the world of today?"
"It is the power source that has made these things obsolete, yes. It is considered safer and cleaner than fire, and easier to distribute. I can demonstrate the basics, if you wish to know more..." he stopped. It was up to her if he taught her anything. He didn't care if she agreed or no. He lifted his hand to his scarf, pulling it down in order to lift the cup to his lips. He usually had it up, for what purpose was anyone's guess, but as soon as he took his sip, he lifted the scarf over the lower half of his face once more. "Knowing the properties of electricity might be useful in other contexts as well," he added, looking over to her. "The tea is well made."
"Ah, thank you.." she blushed, leaning against the sofa and closing her eyes, " I'm alright with electricity, I would rather want to know more about the worlds, what they hold, and what our enemies are..." She opened her eyes to stare at the ceiling, " These... heartless, and I've heard there are also some called nobodies, but I know naught of them...then there is a witch, and a clown, and-- come to think of it It seems that there are more enemies than there are heroes... and one of them is captures... Have you noticed this as well? Or am I just delusional?"
Sai nodded, then pulled from his pocket a small projector which when activated showed a map of the various worlds in a three-dimensional space that surrounded them. He reached up and pointed to Twilight Town. "We left Twilight Town this afternoon, heading to the World that Never Was..." he pointed to the massive castle representing the world. "Where our enemies are..." he set the thing down and sat back. Crossing his arms, he closed his eyes to think. "It is the state of the world that there is more evil than good... It is a constant..." He looked up now, watching the map as it lazily drifted around them. "As for Nobodies... Irony would have it you're speaking with one now."
Agrias tilted her head back when the map came to life, and jumped a little, in surprise. She would even reach forward to try and tap at the projection, "Facinating!" she spoke, but silenced at his explanation. " So... we are heading towards the pit of all Evil... somewhat frightful, is it not?" The knight turned to face the man, an eyebrow raised as she starred at him, "YOU...are a nobody?" she blinked, "But you look... normal... no offence?" She didn't know if that was a compliment or an insult at this point, "I mean... you seem to have a good head about you, and are not in some sort of animalistic attitude..."
"None taken..." Sai returned as he sat back and casually observed the map. "Others like myself are so zealous in their desire to reclaim their hearts that they forget simple things like the best way to handle people... The simplest ways to get what they want. Others are so crazed by their emptiness they'll attack any one or any thing for a heart, whether it belongs to them or not..." He lifted a hand, taping his head. "But I am smarter than that. I know my heart is out there, and I know because of my circumstances... it shouldn't be hard to spot." He looked to her once more. "Does it frighten you?" he asked. "To be speaking with one of the creatures that you've been battling?"
"I don't remember ever fighting any nobodies." Agrias assured, " To be honest, I think I've only been fighting Heartless... creatures with eerie, glowing yellow eyes." She shivered a little, "creatures of the darkness..." The knight stood up at this point, and walked a few paces forward, balling her hands into fists before turning to Sai, "We MUST put an end to this inanity, Sai... there must be an end to this... this cruel madness... this evil, 'tis tiredsome."
Sai nodded solemnly, listening closely. "Our hearts..." he said simply, tapping his chest. "We nobodies are what' s left behind. The universe only recognizes those with hearts, so in the grand scheme of things, we don't exist. It works to our advantage, but the price is too high. To feel nothing... to be completely empty... such a thing is too deeply painful to bear..." he paused, listening to her as she stood up now. "This is why I seek the keyblade."
"Keyblade...?" Agrias turned here, to watch the man with perked curiosity, " What doth a keyblade do?" She stood there, her hands holding tightly at the edges of her robe.
Sai sat back, his hands lifting to his chin and interlacing at the fingers. He rested his upper lip behind the backs of his forefingers, and spoke slowly and clearly. "The keyblade is a legendary weapon crafted specifically for the purposes of battling the darkness. It used to be commonplace, until a great war wiped out almost all traces of the wielders, save a few masters who themselves have since died or hidden themselves away..." he looked to her, watching. "It possesses the ability to unlock the heart from darkness... reunite body to heart... However, the exact methods for its creation are a mystery..."
"Connect to the heart?" Agrias blinked, "You mean, bring someone from the darkness...?" she gasped, thinking back on Beatrix' sword, and how it seemed to knock some sense into her, "What does a keyblade look like??" She seemed interested now, her hands now resting at her sides, almost military.
Sai looked around a moment, then located some paper and a quill pen. He drew quickly, accurately capturing the basic image of a key with a chain at the end. "Roughtly a meter in length. Some can take on different appearances." He held it up for her to see. It didn't look like either Save the Queen (but really, what key does?). "I... hope... to use this weapon to reconnect with my heart at long last... and atone for the dark things my seperation has caused."
Agrias once seemed excited, thinking that they had something, but found no similarity to his drawing. She sighed, "Oh...tis nothing like her sword.." she pondered, reaching up to take the paper, examining it, "... so this will bring your heart back to you, Sai? Will such a strange weapon truly do the trick?"
Silence... Sai looked down, as though considering this very carefully. He closed his eyes a moment, then spoke. "I don't know," he admitted. He didn't know at all. He had only whispers and rumors to go on. Frankly, it was his only chance. He looked up a moment, quiet. "But what choice do I have?"
Agrias watched his contemplative expression, and she reached forward to rest a hand on his shoulder, holding a fist up, "Chin up, Sai, for at least we have a plan to go by! Remember also, fellow warrior, you are not alone in this quest. I'm sure your plan will work, and it will bring peace!"
He nodded a bit at this, looking up at her. "Your enthusiasm is something I cannot match... though if I had to guess what emotion I should feel, I suppose it would be appreciation..." Again, not very good at emotions. He paused, then looked off in thought. "And I guess to show you my appreciation, I should reciprocate your enthusiasm with my true belief that you will find your friend and rescue her." So heartfelt, Sai.
Agrias grinned, "I will find my friend and rescue her!" She nodded, standing straight up, holding a fist to her chest, "I know so! Just as you should be confident in this Keyblade. You shall find it as well, and will reconnect with your heart!" Agrias-- she always had this way of lifting up spirits, raising bravery, and determination. "Sai, I need to know as much as I can before facing the enemy, is there a way we could help each other? I, with the modern world-- and I could even share some tactical ideas I had in mind to add to your collection."
Sai watched her enthusiastic gestures, though from the look on his face, it was clear he didn't quite understand them. He nodded when she spoke to him, though, and stood up as well. "Tactical information would be useful when we arrive at our destination..." he stated calmly then looked to her. "And of course, an up to date combatant is useful on the battlefield. A useful thing where we are going..."
